Tragedy struck the set of the Batwoman television series last week as a crew member was injured while on-set.
Production assistant Amanda Smith,30, was injured on March 11 while on the set of the CW series. According to reports she was sitting under the Georgia Viaduct when a boom lift struck her in the head and pinned her. Sources on set said that due to the vehicle traffic nearby, there was no chance of her hearing the machine as it lowered.
According to a GoFundMe campaign established to assist Smith with her recovery, “While doing her job as a production assistant, the bucket of a lift lowered onto her head and she was trapped beneath it.” Smith was taken for surgery, but it appears she will have a long road to recovery. “She underwent emergency spinal surgery to repair the damage,” the campaign says. “Unfortunately, with this type of surgery, there is no way to know if it was successful until she undergoes significant therapy. She has a burst T-12, and a T-11 ASIA A. She underwent a T-11-T-12 Laminectomy, and is fused from T-10-L2. She is currently paralyzed and cannot feel anything from the waist down, however we are holding out hope that with time and rehabilitation, she might regain sensations in her legs.”
Friends and family have said that they are hopeful that with time and therapy Smith will regain sensation in her legs.
Batwoman, along with all of the other DC shows that make up the Arrowverse, are on hiatus at this time due to the growing coronavirus pandemic.
