It would seem we were very close to Neil Gaiman’s Sandman finally going before cameras before the coronavirus pandemic brought it to a close for at least a little while.
Gaiman was asked via Tumblr recently what the status of the Netflix Sandman series is, and it seems everything was going well. “It’s going really well, except it’s kind of hibernating right now until people start making TV again,” Gaiman said. “The scripts for the first season are written, casting had started, directors hired, sets were being built. Everything was ready to go into production, and then we moved into a pause. As soon as the world is ready to make TV drama, Sandman will move smoothly back into being made. In the meantime, we are taking the opportunity to get the scripts as good as we can.”
It’s a bit surprising the series was to the set building stage and we hadn’t heard anything on casting as of yet. One would have thought at least Dream would have been announced by now.
No word yet as to when the series will resume production or when it may debut on Netflix.
