Following the news that Ruby Rose quit Batwoman, speculation has run rampant as to why she did so. Now, we may have an answer.
On Tuesday, a surprise announcement was made that Ruby Rose was departing Batwoman after only one season. The series was already renewed for season 2, and it will continue with a recasting of the main role.
Following the announcement, speculation began immediately as to what could have caused the change in plans. From sources speaking with multiple outlets, it came down to the work schedule. “It wasn’t 100-percent her decision,” a source told TV Line. “It was a breakup. She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with? No. So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned, if they parted ways. It just wasn’t a good fit.”
The CW is not offering comment, and Rose’s agents are not available for comment.
There has been no word as of yet as to who will take over the role of Kate Kane/Batwoman. The producers have promised it will be someone that represents the LGBTQ community, but that is all that is known so far. With the premiere being delayed to early 2021, there is luckily some time to hunt for the new lead.
