Things are never exactly what they seem in Doom Patrol, and the first season had each of our characters unraveling the mysteries of their personal lives and their unique burdens and abilities. They went from housemates to friends as they fought and defeated Mr. Nobody. Now, the second-most dysfunctional superhero team in comics (after the X-Men) is back for a second tour with a brand new trailer for Doom Patrol Season 2.
The trailer gives us a quick refresher on all our beloved heroes–Robotman, Crazy Jane, Elasti-Woman, Negative Man, and Cyborg–all called by their field names alongside their regular names. They’ve been hard at work mastering their powers, with even Rita working hard to control the abilities she worked so hard to ignore.
Who is Dorothy?
And it’s just in time, too, because there’s a new threat on the horizon: Dr. Caulder’s daughter, Dorothy. Dorothy is a young girl and the product of the Doctor’s time living in the wild alongside a neanderthal-type woman. She’s based on Dorothy Spinner from the comics. Dorothy is a powerful young girl who can manifest any of her many imaginary friends as real and very dangerous beings.
Dorothy looks to be pretty comics-accurate right down to her ape-like appearance, and she gives off a vibe reminiscent of little Anthony from the “It’s a Good Life” episode of Twilight Zone. In other words, we–and the Doom Patrol–should be terrified.
The Patrol, despite its struggles, is closer than ever, with Jane describing the “annoying, feckless losers” that she lives with as her family, and knows they care about her. They’re ready to fight, but they’re going to stumble and fall a lot on the way. If it’s anything like the first season, it’s going to be weird, funny, touching, and a treat for the eyes.
