Joel Schumacher passes away at the age of 80

Joel Schumacher, the director of Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, has passed away at the age of 80.

Schumacher, who directed movies such as St. Elmo’s Fire and The Lost Boys, had been through a year-long battle with cancer.

He began his career in entertainment as a costume designer before moving on to directing. His career took off in the 1980s with a string of hits before heading to the Batman franchise in the 1990s. He eventually went on to direct Phantom of the Opera which earned three Academy Award nominations.
