It seems that we may have to wait some time for Pennyworth season 2 thanks to the coronavirus.
For anyone that watched Pennyworth season 1, Paloma Faith’s turn as the sadistic and psychotic Bet Sykes was one of the definite highlights. While the first set of 10 episodes debuted on July 28, 2019, it’s probably going to be some time before we see any more.
In a new profile on in The Guardian about Faith’s career and her upcoming fifth album, Infinite Things, it was revealed only two episodes of Pennyworth season 2 have been filmed so far. The pandemic lockdowns kicked in and halted production and they hope to return to work soon. Exactly how far off that is remains to be seen, but with eight more episodes to be filmed, a spring 2021 debut seems about the earliest we could hope for.
The cast and crew of Pennyworth are due to appear at the second DC FanDome on Sept. 12, and we’re sure the status of the series will be a hot topic.
Pennyworth is a prequel series to everything Batman as we follow Alfred Pennyworth’s life in London after he left the British military and is attempting to set up his own security company. Season 1 saw him get caught in a war between the Raven Society and the No Name League, and his first encounters with Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane. Season 2 is set to introduce longtime Wayne associate Lucius Fox to the series as well.
