Christopher Nolan shares thoughts on Robert Pattinson as Batman

Christopher Nolan knows a little about Batman, and he’s sharing some thoughts on Robert Pattinson taking on the role.

As has been well documented, Nolan sniffed out that Pattinson was auditioning for the role of the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. He then went on to offer advice on tackling the role once he had it. Now the first The Batman trailer has been shown off, and Nolan has more to say.

“Having worked with Rob, I can say with total confidence that he can do absolutely anything he sets his mind to,” Nolan told Entertainment Tonight while promoting Tenet. “And I could not be more excited to see what he does with Batman.”

Nolan further shared what he learned from working on his trilogy. “One of the first things I learned when we went to talk to the DC guys before Batman Begins is the character of Batman thrives on reinterpretation.” He went on to add, “Each generation creates its own version. That’s what keeps the legend so sort of fresh in a way.”

It also allows for us to have more than one Batman at a time as we’ll learn in a few years when Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton both return to the role in the upcoming The Flash movie.

Nolan’s Tenet is opening theaters in the U.S. this week, while The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 1, 2021.
