As movie studios continue to scramble to change release dates for films, The Batman has a new date: March 4, 2022.
Following on from the news that Cineworld/Regal Cinemas is closing until 2021 possibly, film studios began changing release dates again. Warner Bros. first move was to shift Dune from Dec. 18, 2020 to Oct. 1, 2021. As this was the release date for The Batman, a move for Matt Reeves’ film was inevitable.
This is the second date change for The Batman. Originally scheduled for June 25, 2021, the film moved to Oct. 1, 2021 following a shutdown due to the ongoing pandemic. This latest shift comes as it appears nearly every movie will be departing 2020 and 2021 only has so many potential dates.
After The Batman resumed production, the film was shut down a mere three days later as Robert Pattinson caught COVID-19. The film is back up and running, but it isn’t difficult to imagine that Matt Reeves might enjoy a bit of extra time to finish the film and make sure everything is the way he envisioned it.
For now, The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
