One of the great joys of attending San Diego Comic-Con is visiting the Sideshow Collectibles booth. For one, it’s massive, taking up quite a bit of square footage on the convention floor.
Really, though, the best part about the booth is seeing all of the incredible products on display. Even separated by plexiglass, you can tell that so much detail goes into each and every statue, figure, and replica that the company produces. Be it a life-size bust of a Xenomorph or Wolverine, creative dioramas featuring your favorite superheroes, or a scale model of the Ghostbusters’ Ecto-1 that actually lights up, everything Sideshow has to offer is worth poring over to appreciate such fine craftsmanship.
While it’s a shame that SDCC was canceled this year, and by extension the opportunity to visit the Sideshow booth, our good friends at Insight Editions are here with the next best thing: an art book.
More specifically, an art book that looks inside Sideshow’s process to craft and create pieces based on DC Comics characters. Written by Andrew Farago– who was also one of the writers behind the incredible Batman: The Definitive History of the Dark Knight— DC: Collecting the Multiverse: The Art of Sideshow will feature interviews with some of Sideshow’s most talented sculptors and designers, with plenty of high quality photos, progress art, and design sketches for the highlighted pieces. Check out the details of the book below, along with just a few of the book’s pages that show off some absolutely amazing Sideshow pieces.
