It seems that Greg Berlanti’s DC shows may be getting another addition as a Painkiller series is in the works.

News has surfaced that Black Lightning will be the next CWVerse series to attempt a spinoff. It seems that Khalil Payne/Painkiller (Josh Calloway) will be leaving Freeland City and moving to Akashic valley to escape his past as a member of Tobias Whale’s gang and as a weapon of Agent Odell.

Once there he will be attempting to live a quiet life, but something happens that will cause him to decide he needs to serve up some justice.

According to reports, the backdoor pilot will transpire in the seventh episode of the upcoming season. Depending on how it is received will decide if the project will move to series.

While the CWVerse has spawned many spinoffs since the beginning of Arrow, this would be the first to come out of Black Lightning. With that series only connected to the CWVerse via the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, we’ll leave it up to fans to decide if Painkiller is the latest entry in the CWVerse, or if this is potentially the beginnings of a Lightningverse.

Black Lightning will return to The CW in early 2021.
