The Dark Knight actor Tommy “Tiny” Lister has died

We’re sad to report that Tommy “Tiny” Lister has died.

The towering actor began his career as an athlete, both as a successful college shot put thrower and as a professional wrestler.  He was known as Zeus, the Human Wrecking Machine while in the WWF, where he served as a heel and had a rivalry with Hulk Hogan.  He eventually turned to acting, with his breakout role in the comedy classic Friday, where he played the character Deebo alongside Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, and the late John Witherspoon. Other notable roles include the Galactic President in The Fifth Element, the Klingon Klaang in Star Trek: Enterprise, and Winston in Jackie Brown.

For Batman fans, Lister is best known as the ferry prisoner in the final act of The Dark Knight.  Though his role was small, it was pivotal in the final confrontation between Batman and the Joker, as he made a fateful decision that reflected the true nature of Gotham’s citizens.

A cause of death has not been determined at the time of posting.  He was 62.
