In its third weekend at the U.S. box office, Wonder Woman 1984 took the top spot as the box office continues to fight to recover.

Wonder Woman 1984 dropped 45% in its third weekend to take in $3 million in the U.S. It’s domestic total now stands at $32.6 million and globally it sits at $131.4 million. It’s top foreign territories are:

  • China – $25.3M
  • Australia – $14.5M
  • Taiwan – $8.4M
  • Japan – $4.8M
  • Brazil – $4.8M
  • South Korea – $4M
  • Mexico – $3.8M
  • Spain – $3.8M
  • Singapore – $3.7M
  • Thailand – $3.1M

Currently, Wonder Woman 1984 is tracking behind Tenet, the last major film released into theaters. That film went on to earn $57.9 million domestically and a global total of $362.6 million. A lower domestic total was, of course, expected, due to the release of the film on HBO Max in the U.S.

The good news, however, is that there are no truly major releases scheduled until March, so the film should have a long run of being able to stay on screens.

Exhibitor Relations Co. on Twitter pointed out an interesting statistic that four of the top five locations for the film this weekend were drive-ins, and of those four, all of them are located in California.

The final results for this latest film will be unlike anything we’ve seen before due to the coronavirus and the streaming release. But with Wonder Woman 3 already confirmed to be moving ahead, at least there won’t be much to worry about as this all gets sorted out.
