While the focus of late has been on streaming releases via HBO Max when it comes to DC films, it appears the physical releases of Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984 will indeed be happening.
Throughout 2020, everyone was focused on digital releases thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Zack Snyder’s Justice League release on HBO Max has more to do about economics, but the refrain is essentially the same that all content seems to be moving in that direction. And while the virus is still very much with us, it seems that fans of physical media, or those simply without access, are not being forgotten.
This is definitely good news as there have been concerns about the quality of the presentation of the films from the 4K presentation, various audio codecs, and, of course, the availability of HBO Max being restricted to the U.S. for now.
With all of this in mind, it is welcome news that The Digital Bits has reported, “we have sufficient word from our studio and industry sources to add a number of new or re-confirmed titles to our 4K Ultra HD Release List as coming in 2021, including Zack Snyder’s Justice League (TBA March).” Wonder Woman 1984 is also mentioned with a tag of “TBA April.”
To be clear, that does not mean those are the release dates of the discs. It could simply be when release dates will be announced. It also isn’t clear how many territories this will cover. It seems quite plausible we’ll see a staggered roll out for Zack Snyder’s Justice League with somewhere such as Europe getting the 4K Blu-ray release in March, but those of us in the U.S. having to wait a few months until things quite down on HBO Max.
The details are vague for the moment to be sure, but it does seem as though we will be able to add both films to your physical media collections soon enough.
