HBO Max has found a new show runner for its upcoming Gotham City police spinoff of The Batman in Joe Barton.
According to a report from Variety, HBO Max has tapped Joe Barton to run its Gotham City police series. Barton created and wrote the BBC Two/Netflix series Giri/Haji, and wrote the upcoming film Invasion starring Riz Ahmed.
Barton replaces Terrence Winter who departed the project last Nov. over “creative differences.”
The series is currently without an official title, but has been operating under the name of Gotham Central, a nod to Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka’s comic series.
While The Batman will be set during the second year of the Caped Crusader’s career, the series will be set during the previous year and will feature Batman as more of a presence in the city that no one quite understands yet.
No release date has been announced for the series as of yet.
The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
