If there’s one thing we can all agree of regarding the current crop of Future State books, it’s this: The Next Batman from John Ridley and Nick Derington rocks.  It was a well-written, exciting look at a potential cyberpunk future for Gotham City, and Tim “Jace” Fox is a surprisingly compelling lead for the title.

And that Nick Derington?  Yeah, he should draw everything forever from now on.

The breakout hit looks to be just the beginning for Ridley, too, as DC Comics have announced two major Batman projects from the writer.  First up is The Next Batman: Second Son, an upcoming digital-first series that fills in Jace’s backstory leading up to the events of Future State.  The series will feature art from the likes of Tony Akins, Travel Foreman, and Mark Morales, so you know it’s going to look good too.

Later this summer, DC will also be releasing a collection of Ridley’s Batman work in a nice deluxe edition, which will also include an original story with art from Dustin “he should also illustrate everything thank you” Nguyen.  Clocking in at 128 pages, Batman by John Ridley Deluxe Edition will also include the complete The Next Batman: Future State series, along with other short stories Ridley has been involved in.

Check out more details about both projects here.  The Next Batman: Second Son will release its first digital chapter on February 23, and the Batman by John Ridley Deluxe Edition trade will be available June 29.
