Aquaman 2 reportedly set to begin filming in Summer 2021

It looks as though filming on Aquaman 2 is finally in the works and will begin this summer according to Dolph Lundgren.

Lundgren – who played King Nereus in the first Aquaman film – recently appeared for a virtual Wizard World panel and shared some information on the upcoming sequel.

“I may be doing Aquaman 2 this summer, shooting in London,” said Lundgren. “And that’s coming out the following year in the theaters, they hope.”

Although vaccines are rolling out worldwide for the coronavirus pandemic, plans are still being solidified as to how to get the movie industry back on track. And the films that have been able to get into production are finding it takes much longer to film due to all of the safety precautions that must now be followed.

The first Aquaman went on to gross over $1.1 billion at the box office and became the highest grossing DC film so far. The sequel was soon greenlit, but was surprisingly – for the time – dated for 2022.

Aquaman 2 will see Jason Momoa return in the titular role and will be joined by Amber Heard as Mera, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, as well as others returning to their roles. There have also been rumors of some new characters being added, but we’ll have to wait and see where the plot lands.

Aquaman 2 is currently slated to hit theaters on Dec. 22, 2022.
