After the success of Shazam, director David F. Sandberg is hard at work on the sequel, Shazam: Fury of the Gods. We don’t know much about the picture, but Sandberg has selected a new cast member, Rachel Zegler, according to TheWrap.
DC and Sandberg have reportedly cast actress Rachel Zegler in an unknown ‘key role.’ The Colombian actress is a newcomer to Hollywood, with Shazam: Fury of the Gods as her second role. Zegler is currently playing Maria in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story musical remake. Interestingly, this follows hot on the heels of DC casting another Colombian actress, Sasha Calle, as Supergirl in the upcoming Flash film.
Shazam follows teenager Billy Batson’s transformation in the grown-up, magic-fueled superhero Shazam. Zachary Levi will reprise his role as Shazam for the sequel, as will Asher Angel as his alter ego Billy. We’re expecting Jack Dylan Glazer and the other members of the Shazam family to return, too.
Shazam released to general critical acclaim, and we found it to be one of the most fun of the new generation of superhero movies yet. Shazam: Fury of the Gods is currently scheduled for release on June 2, 2023.
