Zack Snyder’s Justice League Review Roundup: Here’s what the critics think

Zack Snyders Justice League - Team Teaser - Featured - 01

The reviews for Zack Snyder’s Justice League have rolled in, and it’s time to see how the next DC film is going to fare. Lets take a look and see.

Deadline:

One could easily damn Justice League with faint praise for its single-minded sense of purpose, exceptional technical expertise and consistency of tone. You could more easily lambast it for the same reasons. It just drones un-varyingly along, like a spaceship on a very long journey.

Discussing Film:

Ultimately, Justice League feels like a more accessible entry in the Snyderverse than those that came before it while still seamlessly continuing the world that Snyder had been building. It’s a fun, visually impressive ride with an interest in developing its world and characters that should be appealing to both fans and general audiences alike.

Empire:

More than just being superior to its 2017 counterpart, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is an entertaining if overlong superhero flick in its own right. If this is the last DC film Snyder directs, it’s a satisfactory exit.

IGN:

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a surprise vindication for the director and the fans that believed in his vision. With a mature approach to its superhero drama, better-realized antagonists, and improved action, Snyder’s version of Justice League saves the movie from the dustbin of history, something that likely only could’ve happened on a streaming platform like HBO Max. Though not every addition feels totally necessary, and some new visual effects stick out as unpolished, it’s hard to overstate how much more enjoyable this version of Justice League is.

All in all, there’s no doubt in my mind that Snyder Cut devotees will be shocked at just how formidable this new version of Justice League is. Everyone else – my advice is this. Don’t think of it as a director’s cut. It’s really not. The Joss Whedon version of Justice League has barely any footage in common with this, beyond a few heavily modified sequences. This is a new movie and should be viewed as such. Hopefully, it’ll lead to more Snyder in the DCEU. It may seem unlikely but the mere existence of this movie proves nothing is off the table. All in all, there’s no doubt in my mind that Snyder Cut devotees will be shocked at just how formidable this new version of Justice League is. The Observer:

Structurally, this version isn’t much different from the original. But despite some occasional drag, the story flows more organically than the mix-and-match nature of 2017’s. That one was reverse engineered to swing the pendulum away from Batman v Superman. It felt like the last 20 years of being a New York Knicks fan crammed into two hours. The self-assuredness of the new version allows it to keep sailing forward through occasionally choppy water. In lieu of the grimdark depictions that defined Snyder’s early DC films, this Justice League doubles down on the more mythic quality of its otherworldly gods and beings. That cape fits much snugger and gives the film a lighter, more hopeful ease reminiscent of the animated Justice League series.
