Despite numerous rumors that Michael Keaton will appear in The Flash movie, it seems that the actor isn’t quite sure yet.
Batman fans were shocked when in June 2020 a report surfaced that Michael Keaton would return to the role of Batman. Keaton played the Caped Crusader in 1989’s Batman and again in 1992’s Batman Returns, before departing the role. Since that news surfaced, Keaton has not confirmed it. With rumors of the size of the role expanding, there has still been no formal confirmation.
Speaking with Deadline about numerous projects, the topic came up of Keaton once again returning to the role of Batman, and it seems even he may not be positive. “So with [the Batman reprise], I’m going to see what happens here. This is going to be kind of fun. We’ll see what happens,” said Keaton. “I think it’s kind of a drag we’re talking about it, and I’m like, do you really know what the hell you’re talking about? I mean, I could bullshit you, but…”
In general, Keaton still seems somewhat confused as well, saying, “Once I go, I don’t know, are we [doing] this or not? They say, yeah, we’re doing it. Then I go, okay, now I’m going to overthink it, but until then, I don’t want to think about it.” Keaton concluded by saying, “You want to say, like Joe Pesci from My Cousin Vinny… It’s a thing, but it’s not a thing.”
The persistent rumors have said that both Keaton and Ben Affleck would reprise their respective versions of Batman, but it seems that we may have to wait a bit longer for confirmation.
The Flash is quickly assembling a massive cast. Miller is signed on to play the Scarlet Speedster, with Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. Andy Muschietti (IT) is directing from a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey). Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco are producing, while Marianne Jenkins will serve as an executive producer.
The Flash is set to hit theaters on Nov. 4, 2022.
