HBO Max has found the first member of its Green Lantern Corps as Finn Wittrock has been cast as Guy Gardner.

Best known for his appearances in American Horror Story and Ratched, Wittrock will next be playing a member of DC’s galactic police force in the upcoming Green Lantern series. Wittrock will be playing Guy Gardner, a fan-favorite character who doesn’t always get along with the rest of the Corps.

HBO Max is describing the character as “a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism. And yet, Guy is somehow likable.”

The overall series is being described as, “Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, an actor is close to signing on as Alan Scott and should be announced in the near future.

The casting of Wittrock reportedly took some discussion between Berlanti Productions and Ryan Murphy as the actor is set to be the male lead in Ratched season 2. Murphy signed off on Wittrock’s casting as Green Lantern is set to film this year and Ratched season 2 is still in development.

No release date has been announced as of yet for the Green Lantern series.
