The Batgirl movie is back on, and it’s heading to HBO Max with a pair of directors taking on the task.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) will be directing the story of Barbra Gordon.
Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) wrote the script, bringing her up to three DC film scripts. The other two being Birds of Prey and The Flash.
Kristen Burr (Cruella) is producing.
‘With Batgirl, we hope to take the audience on a fun ride and see a different side of Gotham,” Burr told The Hollywood Reporter. “Christina’s script is crackling with spirit. Adil and Bilall have an excited and joyous energy which is infectious, making them the perfect filmmakers for this Batproject. And I’m just psyched I get to be part of the DC universe, which is super cool.”
In addition to Bad Boys for Life, Arbi and Fallah also just wrapped up filming on the Ms. Marvel series for Disney Plus. They have since moved on to a new production called Rebel, so no word as of yet when Batgirl will go into production.
A Batgirl film has been rumored for years now with various writers and directors dropping in and out of it. The most notable having been Joss Whedon who left the film in 2018 when he felt he didn’t have a story worth telling.
Fingers crossed this could be a start for more of the Bat Family getting high-end adaptations.
