The Green Lanterns may be taking one step closer to filling out their ranks as John Irvine is reportedly in talks to suit up as Alan Scott.
Originally reported by The Illuminerdi, and then verified by the various Hollywood traders, John Irvine is in talks to play Alan Scott in the upcoming Green Lantern series on HBO Max.
Of special note, however, is that his talks are reportedly only for one year as opposed to Finn Wittrock’s deal as Guy Gardner being for multiple years. This seems to indicate that Alan Scott will only appear in the first season.
The Green Lantern series is being envisioned as an anthology that will see stories of various Lanterns over the decades including Alan Scott, Bree Jarta, Simon Baz, Jessica Cruz, Guy Gardner, and Sinestro.
Irvine made his debut in 2011 in Steven Spielberg’s War Horse. Since then he has also appeared in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, The Professor and the Madman, and JasonBourne television spinoff, Treadstone.
The character of Alan Scott first appeared in 1940 as a hero named Green Lantern that used a ring powered by magic. He had no connection to the modern versions of the Green Lanterns that were introduced in the 1960s. This was later explained in the comics as Scott was from another Earth in the multiverse.
No premiere date has been announced yet for the Green Lantern series.
