New report details three characters for the Batgirl film

DC Comics

It’s still unclear when the HBO Max Batgirl will be releasing, but it does appear that work is getting underway.

One of the most important first steps in any film production is picking your actors for the key roles. In a film such as Batgirl, that means you’re going to need the hero, her father, and a villain to torment both of them.

According to a new report from The Illuminerdi says that the film is looking to cast an actress in her early 20s for the part of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. In turn, the current plan calls for an actor in their 50s to take on the role of Commissioner Gordon. Looking to create trouble for both of them will be an actor in his 50s to 60s to play a villain that is described as “a disgruntled former firefighter.”

Any time fire comes into play regarding a member of the Bat-Family, our first thoughts turn to some iteration of Firefly. Using Firefly would also be fitting as he was one of the first villains Barbara fought in Batgirl: Year One.

Batgirl is one of several projects that is currently planned for HBO Max. In addition to this film, HBO Max has plans for Blue Bettle and Static Shock, and further plans to release two original films on the service per year. There are also plans for multiple TV series down the read including Peacemaker, Green Lantern, a GCPD-centered spinoff from The Batman, and more.

It looks as though HBO Max is going to become a must-have service for all DC fans.
