Batman: The Imposter, a new Black Label series by Andrea Sorrentino and Mattson Tomlin

If there’s one artist that I’ve been wanting to draw a full Batman comic, it’s Andrea Sorrentino, known for critically acclaimed comics such as Green Arrow, Old Man Logan and Gideon Falls. Well, my fellow comic fans, the time has come at last!

In October Sorrentino will be joining forces with The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin and celebrated colorist Jordie Bellaire to bring us BATMAN: THE IMPOSTER. The story will be set early in the Dark Knight’s career, and he will have to unravel the mystery surrounding a second Batman—someone who’s murdering criminals in our hero’s name—while evading the authorities and the corrupt elite!

The creative team has said that they will be “taking the question of ‘What if Batman was real’ as far as narratively possible.” They will treat “Bruce Wayne and the people around him as tragically flawed and vividly real, with the obstacles Batman faces coming from a reality that closely mirrors our own.” I’ve seen Sorrentino draw the horrific and the fantastical, and I can’t wait to see him venturing into more realistic territory. Have Bellaire color his work, and you know it’s going to be great!

BATMAN: THE IMPOSTER is a three-issue Prestige Format series and will debut on October 12, 2021.

The hardcover collecting all three issues will be out on February 22, 2022.
