James Gunn talks using practical effects in The Suicide Squad

Practical effects in movies have been making a comeback for several years now, and it seems that James Gunn made good use of that from The Suicide Squad.

As CGI continued to take over more of the filmmaking process, directors and certain audiences have longer for practical effects. There is definitely something to be said to reacting to something happening live and real-time on the set as opposed to a tennis ball on a stick.

Following up on the featurette about using Red Digital Cinema cameras for The Suicide Squad, Gunn has shared another video about the practical effects of the upcoming film.

The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters and HBO Max on Aug. 5, 2021 in the U.S. It will be in theaters in the U.K. on July 30.
