First look: Burton’s Batman returns this August in Batman ‘89 #1

There’s hardly a comic I’ve been looking forward to more this year than Batman ‘89.  A return to the continuity of Tim Burton’s Batman movies, written by Sam Hamm, the screenwriter of the classic 1989 blockbuster, with art from the incredible Joe Quinones and Leonardo Ito, and letters from Clayton Cowles?

It’s enough to make a man get nuts.

Now, I’ve read the first issue, and without any spoilers, I’ll just say it’s been worth the wait.  And Quinones and Ito?  They should set the standard for how all comics should look going forward.  The artwork is so.  Good.

To bide our time until the series debuts next month, DC have provided us with a first look at the interiors, which waste approximately no time in getting Batman back into the thick of the action.

Per DC:

Step back into the Gotham of Tim Burton’s seminal classic Batman movies on August 10! When the new six-issue comic book run launches next month, Gotham City is being torn in two as citizens dressed as Batman and The Joker duke it out in the streets! As D.A. Harvey Dent tries to keep the city together, he targets the one problem tearing it apart: BATMAN! And he’ll get Bruce Wayne’s help in taking down the Dark Knight!
