Danny DeVito will write a Penguin story in the upcoming “Gotham City Villains Anniversary Giant” one-shot comic book

The Cobblepot’s number one son who was treated like number two returns this November, as legendary actor and national treasure Danny DeVito will contribute a Penguin story to the one-shot comic Gotham City Villains Anniversary Giant #1.

While DeVito’s take on the Penguin is certainly unique and very much a product of the film he was in, there’s no denying that the actor gave it his all in the role.  Since the release of Batman Returns in 1992, joined Burgess Meredith in the annals of onscreen Penguins with his incredibly different yet undeniably memorable portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot.  I’m curious to see what type of story he has to tell with the Batman villain, but given his decades-long career in Hollywood, I’m sure he’ll be able to bring a different perspective by drawing on his own experiences on film.

DeVito will be joined by the inimitable Dan Mora and Paul Kominski on the story, and the issue will also feature the talents of G. Willow Wilson, Wes Craig, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Jill Thompson, Mairghread Scott, Khary Randolph, Stephanie Phillips, and many more.  In addition to the brilliant Frank Quitely variant above, the issue will ship with a standard cover from Lee Bermejo, along with variants from Craig, Mora, Riccardo Federici, Maurgerite Sauvage, and Chris Burnham.  Check out Bermejo and Burnham’s covers, along with some of Mora’s character designs in the gallery below.

Gotham City Villains Anniversary Giant #1 will hit comic shops and digital retailers on November 30.
