The Penguin may be heading to our TVs on a weekly basis if a new report is to be believed.
It seems that Warner Bros. may want to go all-in when it comes to Matt Reeves new Batman universe. A new report from Variety indicates that a series focusing on the Penguin is in early development at HBO Max.
Colin Farrell will be playing Oswald Cobblepot in the film, but no word as of yet if he has signed on for the television project.
Currently, Lauren LeFranc is said to be attached to write the script with Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark onboard as executive producers.
According to the sources, the series would focus on the Penguin’s rise to power in Gotham City’s underworld.
Should this project move forward, it would be the second spinoff from The Batman. The other announced project is set to focus on the Gotham City Police Department and how it deals with the earliest days of the Batman appearing across the city.
Warner Bros. has stated that it wants all of its upcoming DC films to spawn a spinoff of some type for HBO Max, but this is the first indication we’ve had that it may go even further than that.
While Farrell is primarily known for his work in film, he has taken on TV projects before. He starred in both The North Water and season 2 of True Detective. Signing him on to the TV project would be key, but seeing as HBO was able to get John Cena for Peacemaker, Farrell does not seem out of the realm of possibility at all.
The Batman is due to hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
