Leslie Grace is in full training mode for the Batgirl movie, and that includes every aspect of the character.

Speaking with Billboard in support of her solo song, “Bachatica,” Grace was asked about preparing for her role as Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl. “Lots and lots of training!” said the actor. “I’m currently fight-training every day with my amazing “martial arts mom,” Ming Qiu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Mandalorian), who cracks the whip! I’ve never fought in my life, so we are working really hard every day to get my body used to all the motions! I’m also reading a ton of comics and, believe it or not, keeping my eye out for tweets from our beloved DC comic fans to see what they are excited to see in my iteration of Babs! Research is everything.”

“I’m so excited to honor this iconic character whose legacy spans over 50 years. It’s a huge responsibility but also an honor — and I want to do my very best to make sure she gets the best of all I have to give,” Grace added.

It has not been confirmed, but it is rumored that J.K. Simmons is in talks to reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct the film and are currently in Scotland preparing for the production. Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, Birds of Prey) wrote the film’s script.

No release date has been announced for Batgirl as of yet.
