Madonna has confirmed that she did indeed turn down the role of Catwoman in 1992’s Batwoman Returns.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Madonna was asked a series of questions about rumors regarding her career. Amongst them were the rumors that she turned down both the role of Catwoman in Batman Returns, and the lead in Showgirls. She confirmed that both are true and added, “I saw them both, and I regret that I turned down Catwoman. That was pretty fierce,” said Madonna. “Showgirls? No.”

Catwoman was of course played by Michelle Pfeiffer who went on to great acclaim in the role. Pfeiffer still harkens back to that role on occasion including when she first joined Instagram, and later when she located her prop whip.

While Madonna is best known for her music, she has tried her hand at acting multiple times with mixed results. While she was praised for roles in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan and A League of their Own, she was also blasted for films such as Shanghai Surprise.

Numerous other names have been rumored to have been considered for the role of Selina Kyle in Batman Returns including Geena Davis, Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman, and several more.
