Colin Farrell is reportedly set to star in and executive produce a Penguin series for HBO Max.
Farrell is set to make his debut as Oswald Cobbelpot – also known as the Penguin – in The Batman, but plans are already afoot for him to reprise the role. According to a report from Variety, Farrell will not only star in the series, but will also serve as an executive producer.
Lauren LeFranc is reportedly set to write the script. Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark are set to serve as executive producers along with Farrell.
Neither HBO Max or Warner Bros. Television have commented on the report as of yet.
Should the series move forward, this will be the second planned spinoff from The Batman. A series focusing on the Gotham City Police Department is also in development at HBO Max and is set to cover how the police handled the first year of Batman’s career. The Penguin series is said to deal with his rise to power in the criminal underworld of Gotham.
Warner Bros. is said to be looking for all of its DC films to generate at least one spinoff for HBO Max. The first of these projects will be Peacemaker, a spinoff of The Suicide Squad, which is set to debut on Jan. 13, 2022. Director James Gunn has suggested in recent social media replies that this may also not be the only spinoff from his recent film.
No word as of yet as to when The Penguin will make its debut on HBO Max.
The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
