DC Films of 2022 – Every DC Movie Set for 2022

The Batman 2022 - Teaser Poster - Batman - Featured - 01

The DC Films of 2022 are going to be a marked difference for DC movies as Warner Bros. prepares to increase the number of movies it releases. There are five movies on the way to theaters, and possibly even more heading straight to HBO Max, so we’re digging in to check them all out.

The Batman – March 4

The first DC film of 2022 to release will be the latest version of Batman. Directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, it looks as though The Batman will lean hard into the detective aspect of the character.

Set in only the second year of his career, Batman will be facing off with the Penguin and the Riddler, with Catwoman running around as well. Which side she will work with will be defined by her usual set of motivations that can make her good or bad at the drop of a hat.

Joining Robert Pattinson in The Batman will be Paul Dano (The Riddler), Zoe Kravitz (Catwoman), Colin Farrell (The Penguin), John Turturro (Carmine Falcone), Jeffrey Wright (James Gordon), Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth), and more. Matt Reeves serves as both writer and director.

The Batman will hit theaters on March 4, and be on HBO Max on April 19.

DC League of Super-Pets – May 20

Things will go decidedly more kid-friendly in May with the release of DC League of Super-Pets. Superman’s dog, Krypto, will be teaming up with other famous superhero pets from the comics such as Ace, the Bat-Hound as they try to rescue the Justice League from the hands of Lex Luthor.

Dwayne Johnson will be starring as Krypto and Kevin Hart as Ace when the film hits theaters on May 20.

Black Adam – July 29

And speaking of Dwayne Johnson, the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change as Black Adam is finally heading to theaters. Dwayne Johnson has been attached to play the anti-hero who is best known for fighting Shazam for a decade. After numerous false starts, the film is finally on its way.

In addition to finally meeting Black Adam, the film will also introduce moviegoers to the Justice Society of America, a precursor to the Justice League of America in the comics. The film will show us heroes such as Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone. Here’s hoping the film will lead to some potential spinoff projects for that team.

The film will star Johnson as Black Adam, Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher), Aldis Hodge (Hawkman), Sarah Shahi (Adrianna Tomaz), Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone), and Pierce Brosnan (Doctor Fate).

Black Adam is due to shake up the box office on July 29.

The Flash – November 4

The Flash could end up being one of the most important projects in DC film history as it will introduce moviegoers to this cinematic universe’s version of the multiverse.

We know that the Flash will mess with the timeline as he did in the well-known Flashpoint storyline and that means some chaos will ensue. This will lead to him meeting Supergirl as well as another version of Batman that just happens to be played by Michael Keaton. Ben Affleck will also reprise his role of Batman for what will reportedly be the final time. The rumor is that Keaton will become the main Batman in DC films going forward and will take on a mentor-style relationship with other heroes as they are introduced.

The film will see Ezra Miller reprising his role as Barry Allen/The Flash. He will be joined by Ron Lovingston (Henry Allen), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Sasha Calle (Supergirl), and Maribel Verdú (Nora Allen).

The Flash will race into theaters on November 4.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom – December 16

Rounding out the year in theaters will be Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to the first film that ended up grossing over $1.14 billion dollars globally.

Not much is known about the plot of the film as of yet, but Jason Momoa will return to play the title role and will be joined once again by Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently scheduled to be released on December 16. Of all the movies on this list, this is the one we suspect may be delayed as this is the same day that Avatar 2 is currently scheduled to release as well. Chances are high that one of the films will need to move to a later date.

No release date has been set yet, but everything is indicating that there will be a sixth DC film released in 2022. Batgirl is currently filming in Scotland and is going to be released directly to HBO Max before the end of the year. The film stars Leslie Grace as Batgirl, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser as Firefly, and Michael Keaton will once again return as Batman.

Combined with side-projects on the way such as Peacemaker on HBO Max, it looks as though DC fans are in for a big year of fresh content that we can’t wait to dig into. And this is just the first year of what is proposed to be increased production, so hopefully, every year starts to look like this.
