Matt Reeves has a lot on his plate, and it appears that may include a spinoff about Arkham Asylum from The Batman.
Reeves already has two spinoffs in the works from his new The Batman film. The first that was announced was a series focused on the Gotham City police during the first year of Batman’s career. The second is a series based around the Penguin’s rise to power in the city’s underworld.
In a new interview with the Toronto Sun, Reeves has shared that there is a third series in the works.
We’re doing this Penguin series and one of the great things about that is Colin Farrell — he’s like you’ve never seen him. He’s so incredible and he’s a scene-stealer. Along the way, we thought maybe we could do (his character) as a series. So I talked to HBO Max and showed them Colin in the movie and spoke to them about what this could be and they said, ‘Let’s do it.’ So we’re doing that and we’re doing another series that connects to Arkham (Asylum). We are talking and thinking about the next movie, but to be honest with you, at the moment, I really want the audience to connect with this. And I really believe they will because I think Rob is an incredible Batman.
What could an Arkham Asylum series be about? There’s a lot of history with the Asylum in the comics, and it could be interesting to see the series delve into some of that. It could just as well deal with where the film leaves off. We’ll just have to wait and see, but it looks as though Matt Reeves is going to be a very busy man for some time to come.
