Upcoming Comics: March 8, 2022

Welcome back to Upcoming Comics!

I’m a little exhausted this week, so today’s entry will be pretty basic. I’ve had two huge things come out over the past few days: my article about the Papa Johns Chicken Wings was stupid as hell, but one of my favourite things I’ve ever had the pleasure of writing for this website. I hope you enjoyed it, because I’d really love to do more of this sort of thing!

What’s even bigger, though, is I published my first ever comic:

The Well is a short horror story, and a proof of concept for something larger if it gets enough traction. I’d love for it to get to a hundred likes if it’s possible, but as it is the response I’ve recieved has already been overwhelming! This kind of stuff is a dream project, and I want to do as much as I can to make more of it happen. Let me know if you guys like it!

Now, here’s what we have for this week:

Upcoming Comics

Detective Comics #1056

The Scarecrow stalks The Tower! Dr. Jonathan Crane, who recently terrorized Gotham City during “Fear State,” is but one of many villainous inhabitants of Arkham Tower jockeying for position as leader of the hostage situation unfolding before everyone’s eyes. But with security down, Huntress, Nightwing, and Harley Quinn are no longer quite so outnumbered…here come Batwoman, the Batgirls, and Tim Drake to the rescue! Can the Bat-Family save the innocent civilians caught in the crossfire? And that’s not the only help arriving on the scene… The boy kicks his plan into gear in “House of Gotham” partt 10! On a mission to kill the source of his trauma, the boy’s aim squares solely on The Joker and the Batman…two sides of the same coin that have, in his mind, caused him and the city nothing but pain. Plus: Batgirl, a villainous run-in, and another step toward disaster for Jim Gordon!

Thoughts: I’m not sure any event needs this many entries, especially since I barely see it impact the rest of the line.

The Joker #13

Vengeance has spent her short existence waiting for the moment she could kill The Joker, but she knows that if she fulfills her programming, she’ll be dragged back into the servitude of the terrifying Knightfallen of Santa Prisca. Jim Gordon may be her only way out, but a revelation close to his heart has the potential to send him down a darker path. One he may never turn back from. Backup: The trial of the century in Gotham City begins to draw to a close, and no one will be left happy with the results…except for one Alexis Kaye, a.k a. Punchline!

Written by James Tynion and Sam Johns

Inks by Cam Smith and Belén Ortega
Colours by Arif Prianto, Alejandro Sanchez and Luis Guerrero
Cover Art by Rafael Albuquerque, Giuseppe Camuncoli and Cam Smith

Thoughts: We’re one issue away from the finale to “Season One” of this comic! This has been a kind of insane series – crazy to think Joker has been mostly relegated to this book.

Future State: Gotham #11

The Next Joker’s rampage continues! All hell breaks loose in Gotham City as Jason Todd, a.k.a. Peacekeeper Red, enlists the Next Batman and Hunter Panic to battle the Next Joker for the life of…Tobias Whale? Plus, Talia makes a move that will change Nightwing forever!

Thoughts: It feels like this book has been going on forever! It’s cute that it’s been so consistent, though – I know I’d love this if I was a kid.

Review will be covered in a trade release.

Beyond the Bat

Welcome to Beyond the Bat! Here you can see everything else that DC is releasing this week, beyond the scope of the books we cover on the website.

This week, Trial of the Amazons begins – and I’d definitely suggest checking it out to some degree! Bear in mind, Wonder Woman hasn’t had an event in quite a while, so there’s a lot of weight to this as compared fo Batman Event #50.

Ratings

Not gonna lie, not much is grabbing me this week. Ah, well.

Best wishes, and see you in the reviews!
