The cast of the upcoming Blue Beetle continues to grow as Sharon Stone is in talks to join the cast, and Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C.) will play Carapax the Indestructible Man.

According to The Wrap, Stone is currently in talks to play Victoria Kord, an original character created for the film. There is some speculation that this may be a gender-swapped version of Jarvis Kord, Ted Kord’s uncle in the comics.

Meanwhile, Trujillo is set to play Carapax the Indestructible Man. The character first appeared in Blue Beetle Vol. 6 #1. The character has a connection to Jarvis Kord, adding more weight to the idea that Stone will be playing a version of the character. In the original story, Conrad Carapax stumbled on a lab of Jarvis’ and discovered an indestructible robot. He attempted to activate and was electrocuted. His brain was placed in the robot body and he became an enemy of Blue Beetle’s.

This, of course, would not be Stone’s first turn as a DC villain. She previously played the villain in Halle Berry’s Catwoman film.

Xolo Mariduena (Cobra Kai) will be starring as Jaime Reyes and Angel Manuel Soto is signed on to direct from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

The first two incarnations of Blue Beetle were crimefighters that relied on various gadgets. The second version was a Charlton Comics character that was eventually purchased by DC Comics and served as the inspiration for the Nite Owl character in the Watchmen series. The Reyes version differs significantly from those versions as he gains his powers from an alien scarab he bonded with that encases him in a  suit of armor.

Reyes became a staple of the Young Justice series and has also appeared in other animated fares such as Batman: The Brave and the Bold, DC Super Hero Girls, and Justice League Action. He has also had one other brush with a live-action incarnation appearing in an episode of the tenth season of Smallville.

Blue Beetle will hit theaters on Aug. 18, 2023.
