Batgirl directors discuss which universe the film is set in

The upcoming Batgirl film is clearly doing some funny business when it comes to universes, and even the directors appear to be slightly confused.

While Batgirl was filming in Scotland, we saw the set photos that showed J.K. Simmons was back playing Commissioner Gordon, while Michael Keaton was once again suited up as Batman. While we know Keaton will also appear in The Flash, how exactly in the DC film universe going forward will work is a mystery at this juncture.

Speaking in a new interview with The Direct, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah also seem to have some questions. “Well you know, we’d sort of give the same answer, because we would also ask, ‘Oh, you have J.K. Simmons from the Snyderverse and we got Michael Keaton from the Burton-verse,” said El Arbi. “What’s the situation there?’ And they would say, ‘Don’t worry about it. We got a plan.’ They never really explained that aspect to us, but I guess you’re gonna have to see the other movies to understand what happens, why the reason is that we ended up in sort of a spaghetti of Multiverses in that aspect. It’s gonna be a delicious spaghetti, I’m sure of that.”

It seems that The Flash is going to have a lot of heavy lifting to do to set up everything that comes after it.

Batgirl will feature Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, J.K. Simmons as Jim Gordon, Brendan Fraser as Firefly, and Ivory Aquino as Alysia Yeoh.

Still no word on a potential release date for the film outside of some time in 2023.
