It looks as though everything is a go as a Joker 2 release date has been set. You can expect to see Joker: Folie à Deux in theaters on Oct. 4, 2024.

Todd Phillips’ highly anticipated sequel to Joker is moving forward. We knew a script had been presented to Joaquin Phoenix, and a title announced, but if the movie was moving forward had not been made official. Now, according to Deadline, everything is a go.

Warner Bros. Discovery had a hold on the Oct. 4, 2024 date for some time now for a DC project, so this makes sense. Especially since when Joker opened in Oct. 2019 it set a new record for the month with a $96.2 million opening weekend. Keeping the sequel to the same month makes sense for the studio.

Not known for sure yet is whether the rumors of Lady Gaga joining the cast are real or not.

The first Joker film went on to be the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever with $1.07 billion globally. It also was nominated for 11 Oscars with Hildur Guðnadóttir winning for Original Music Score and Joaquin Phoenix winning for Best Actor.

The news of this release date couldn’t come at a better time for the studio with the revelation that Batgirl was being shelved for a rumored tax write-off. With the success of the original film, it seems likely that this film won’t have much trouble making it to the finish line of being released.
