Lady Gaga took to social media on Thursday to confirm her casting in the Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux.

Following numerous rumors, Lady Gaga confirmed her casting in Joker: Folie à Deux via video on scoial media on Thursday.

The rumors have been that she will be playing a version of Harley Quinn opposite Phoenix’s reprisal of his Joker role. While that is not said in the video, the fact that we see her silhouette dancing with Phoenix’s to the song “Cheek to Cheek” certainly seems to point in that direction.

The first Joker film went on to be the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever with $1.07 billion globally. It also was nominated for 11 Oscars with Hildur Guðnadóttir winning for Original Music Score and Joaquin Phoenix winning for Best Actor.

The news of this casting, and that of the release date, couldn’t come at a better time for the studio with the revelation that Batgirl was being shelved for a rumored tax write-off. With the success of the original film, it seems likely that this film won’t have much trouble making it to the finish line of being released.

Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theaters on Oct. 4, 2024
