It seems that we may not have seen the last of Sophie Dumond after all.

According to a report from Deadline, Zazie Beetz is in talks to reprise her role as Sophie Dumond in Joker: Folie à Deux. As fans may remember, her ultimate fate in the original film was left somewhat ambiguous and it wasn’t entirely clear if she was alive or dead. Her being in talks really doesn’t tell us the answer one way or the other as Arthur was prone to delusions. He could be imagining he sees her, or she could really be there. We more than likely won’t know either way until the movie is released in 2024.

The first Joker film went on to be the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever with $1.07 billion globally. It also was nominated for 11 Oscars with Hildur Guðnadóttir winning for Original Music Score and Joaquin Phoenix winning for Best Actor.

The recent news of Lady Gaga joining the cast, and the announcement of the release date, couldn’t come at a better time for the studio with the revelation that Batgirl was being shelved for a rumored tax write-off. With the success of the original film, it seems likely that this film won’t have much trouble making it to the finish line of being released.

Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theaters on Oct. 4, 2024
