The Penguin TV series is picking up some speed at HBO Max as a director has signed on for the first two episodes.
According to a report from Discussing Film – and later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter – Craig Zobel (The Mare of Easttown) has signed on to direct the first two episodes of The Penguin. He will also be serving as an executive producer on the project.
Directing the first episode of any TV project is always a big event as it sets the visual tone and style for other directors across the rest of the series.
The Penguin project has been discussed for some time and was ordered straight to series shortly after the premiere of The Batman in March 2021. Colin Farrell will reprise his role from the film.
Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions, Dylan Clark Productions, and Warner Bros. Television are all working on the series. Daniel Pipski from 6th & Idaho Production will also serve as an executive producer along with Rafi Crohn as a co-executive producer.
No details on the length of the series or a potential debut have been announced as of yet.
