Speaking with Extra in support of his new film The Banshees of Inisherin, Farrell was asked what he could share about the Penguin series. “It starts a week after The Batman ends, so Gotham is still somewhat underwater.” He went on to add, “I read the first script for the first episode, and it opens up with my feet splashing through the water in Falcone’s office.”

Farrell is very clearly excited for the project, saying, “I love that character and I was greedy with it. I felt like I didn’t have enough. I wanted to do it more and more, so now I get the chance.”

Craig Zobel (The Mare of Easttown) has signed on to direct the first two episodes of The Penguin. He will also be serving as an executive producer on the project.

The Penguin project has been discussed for some time and was ordered straight to series shortly after the premiere of The Batman in March 2021. Colin Farrell will reprise his role from the film.

Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions, Dylan Clark Productions, and Warner Bros. Television are all working on the series. Daniel Pipski from 6th & Idaho Production will also serve as an executive producer along with Rafi Crohn as a co-executive producer.

No details on the length of the series or a potential debut have been announced as of yet.
