As Mark Twain once said in regard to a rumor he had died, “The report of my death was an exaggeration.” And so seems to be the reports that the Green Lantern series is dead at HBO Max.

Over the holiday weekend, a rumor circulated online that the Green Lantern series had been scrapped. In response to one of these reports, DC Studios co-chair James Gunn replied with a simple response of “Fake.” The tweet he was replying was later deleted, and the story was retracted.

Of all the DC projects that remain from the pre-Warner Bros. Discovery days, it’s understandable how people might think that Green Lantern has been done away with. The series was officially announced in 2019, and was adding cast in 2021 before things went quiet again. Then, in August of this year, it was announced it was still alive but was being retooled from the ground up.

Currently, the exact status of the series is unknown, but Gunn has promised that we will be receiving more updates about the slate for the DCU in January. For now, we will just have to wait to find out.
