Shazam Fury of the Gods - New Costumes - Featured - 01

As fans prepare for the launch of the new version of the DC Universe, we still have four new DC films to look forward to in 2023. The first one that will be making its way to theaters will be Shazam: Fury of the Gods.

What’s the release date for Shazam: Fury of the Gods?

Shazam: Fury of the Gods will hit theaters just under four years since the original was released in 2019. Shazam: Fury of the Gods is set to release on March 17, 2023.

Who’s the director?

David F. Sandberg returns to direct the second film in the series. He is working from a script by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan. Gayden was a co-writer on the first film as well, along with Darren Lemke.

This is Sandberg’s fourth studio film with his previous works being Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation, and Shazam!. He received a lot of attention from the short films he made with his now wife, Lights Out, was his breakout work that was then remade as his first studio film.

Which cast members are returning?

Pretty much all of them. Zachary Levi will return as Shazam with Asher Angel once again playing Billy Batson. They will be joined by Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman (Adam Brody as his superhero form), Ian Chen as Eugene Choi (Ross Buttler as the superhero), Jovan Armand as Pedro Pena (D.J. Cotrona as the superhero), and Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley (Meagan Good as the superhero). The only change in the family is Grace Fulton will now play both Mary Bromfield and her superhero form, replacing Michelle Broth as the hero form. This was done based on Mary’s older age than the rest of the family.

Marta Milans and Cooper Andrew will return as Rosa and Victor Vásquez, and Djimon Hounsou will reprise his role as the Wizard.

Which cast members are new?

There will be three new women in the cast, all playing Daughters of Atlas. They include Rachel Zegler as Anthea, Helem Mirren as Hespera, and Lucy Liu as Kalypso.

What do we know about the story?

Details on the plot are light, but there is a bit of a premise out there:

When Billy Batson and his foster siblings, who transform into superheroes by saying “Shazam!”, are forced to get back into action and fight the Daughters of Atlas, they must stop them from using a weapon that could destroy the world in which they must travel in order to make peace with the Gods because of Billy taking their powers for granted.

Is there a Shazam: Fury of the Gods trailer?

Yes.

Will there be more movies?

It’s always possible, but with the current changeover from the former DC Extended Universe to the new DC Universe, a lot is uncertain at this time.
