Effective immediately, Warner Bros. Discovery is instituting its first-ever HBO Max price increase for the service.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced that effective on Jan. 11, 2023, the monthly price for HBO Max is increasing from $14.99 to $15.99, a 7% increase. For current customers, you will see the price take effect on your first renewal date following Feb. 11, 2023.
“This price increase of one dollar will allow us to continue to invest in providing even more culture-defining programming and improving our customer experience for all users,” HBO Max said in a statement.
There has been no announcement if there will be any increase for the ad-supported tier of the service which currently costs $9.99 a month.
HBO Max has been going through significant changes since the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery in April 2022. As the company prepares to merge HBO Max with Discovery Plus – leading to a potential new name of “Max” – there has also been a mass removal of a lot of content. We’ve seen films and series removed, as well as even 256 Looney Tunes shorts, three seasons of The Flintstones, and a whole lot more.
How customers will react to the price increase remains to be seen.
