Matt Reeves confirms work progressing on Batman 2

Matt Reeves has confirmed work is moving forward on The Batman 2, that the Penguin series ties into it, and more.

Over multiple interviews recently, Matt Reeves has shared some updates, confirmations, and potential speculation regarding The Batman 2. The most obvious bit of info shared was that he is indeed working on the script currently. Collider asked him if he was shooting any movies this year, but he played somewhat coy saying, “I’m not going to answer that question, but we are working on a movie. I’ll put it to you that way.”

He eventually gave a bit more of an answer saying, “We’re deep in it and my partner and I are writing, Mattson [Tomlin] and I are writing, and it’s really exciting, and I’m really excited about what we’re doing.”

We may get our first taste of what to expect from The Batman 2 from the upcoming The Penguin series, however. Speaking with JoBlo, Reeves said of the series, “There’s actually a whole little fabric of things we’re wanting to do. The way we’re doing with [the] Penguin and how that comes back into how that will lead into the sequel, and what that sequel is going to be.”

As to who the villain of the sequel may be. Well… perhaps we shouldn’t rule out Condiment King quite yet. Speaking with ComicBook.com, Reeves was asked about the notorious c-list villain. “Oh gosh, I don’t know. I really couldn’t answer that because I really don’t know, and also people are going to be rampantly speculating,” said Reeves. “I will say that to me the funniest thing that Rob [Pattinson] did the last time that we were on the press tour is that he kept talking about how great he thought it would be if we did Condiment King because he loved the idea of somebody just dousing somebody in mustard. I won’t commit to saying that Condiment King is going to make a reference but I’ll just use that as an answer to your question because I don’t have an answer to your question.”

We wouldn’t start fan-casting Condiment King quite yet, but one never knows for sure.
