It seems that a whole lot of people loved The Batman, and that included critics.
Rotten Tomatoes has announced that the title of “Best-Reviewed Comic Book Movie of 2022” goes to none other than The Batman. This is the first time a Batman film has taken the title since the category was added in 2012.
The film, which was released on March 4, 2022, went on to earn $369.34 million in the U.S., and $398.21 million in the foreign markets for a global total of $767.56 million. The film did well enough that not only was a sequel ordered, but an HBO Max series focusing on Colin Farrell’s Penguin begins filming in February.
There’s no word as of yet as to the potential release date of the sequel, but Matt Reeves has confirmed that he is currently working on it. He recently said in an interview that he will be meeting with DC Studios co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran in the coming weeks to hear their plans for the next several years, while laying out his for the Bat-Verse. For now, the two will exist as their own entities, and they want to make sure that their plans are different enough so as not to clash.
The Batman is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
