As fans eagerly await announcements from James Gunn about the future of the DCU, it seems that Dave Bautista may have beaten him to the punch.

Bautista has worked with Gunn on all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies as well as the recent Holiday Special. The former wrestler was also very vocal about his displeasure at Gunn being fired from Marvel several years ago. With Gunn now in charge of DC, and having stated he imagines he will work with his Guardians cast again, it seems that the proverbial loose lips may be sinking some ships already.

Speaking with Insider in support of the upcoming Knock at the Cabin, Bautista may have let slip some of Gunn’s plans. “I have had conversations with James about that but I think the direction he’s leaning in, completely rebooting that whole universe, he’s starting from scratch and starting younger and fresher and I think you need to do that,” said the actor over the weekend.

“I think for the DC Universe to be revived, you need to start from scratch, and I think you need to start with younger actors,” added Bautista.

Bautista has made no secret in the past about how much he would love to play Bane, but it seems he thinks that time has passed now. “You need to start to plan for the next 15 years, and I just don’t think you can do that with me. And I understand that. And, also, I have to say that I appreciate that because I don’t want to play a character that I can’t bring justice to it. I don’t think at this point in my career that I can bring justice to Bane anymore. I just don’t know if I could handle the physical part, and I don’t think I would have the longevity to plan ahead for films. So, I just don’t know if I’d be that guy.”

Gunn has previously stated announcements about his DCU plans would take place in January, and with the clock quickly winding down, it seems Bautista may have beaten him to the punch.
