James Gunn confirms The Flash resets only portions of the DCU

The Flash 2022 - New Suit - DC FanDome - 01

At long last fans have received some clarification about whether or not The Flash will be resetting the DC Universe.

It’s well known at this point that the upcoming The Flash movie will be similar to the Flashpoint storyline from the comics. When the events of the film wrap up, it will not be the same universe it was at the beginning of the film.

Fans have been trying to determine just how much will be reset, especially following the announcement of the Waller series this week. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunnw as asked, “James I’m seriously confused. How is Viola Davis still playing Amanda Waller? Aren’t you rebooting the DCEU 100%? That includes Peacemaker, the whole Suicide Squad, and the Snyderverse.Like you said Robert Pattinson’s Batman & Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker [are] [Elseworlds] [stories].”

Gunn replied, “Nope. Flash resets many things, not all things. Some characters remain the same some do not.”

While that doesn’t give us a detailed breakdown of everyone who is in and out of the DCU quite yet, it at least tells us anyone not entirely out as of yet still has a shot at remaining. For people such as Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa, it will likely hinge on how their films perform this year. For now, it seems fairly safe to assume both of them, as well as Gal Gadot and Zachary Levi are still in their respective roles.
