HBO Max isn’t guaranteeing all of those DC shows quite yet

James Gunn and Peter Safran have some pretty big plans for the new DCU, but it seems that HBO Max isn’t ready to guarantee you’ll see all of them.

At the end of January, Gunn and Safran unveiled five films and five TV projects that will be part of chapter 1 of the DCU. While these plans seemed pretty locked in,  HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys is saying that plans will be determined by their quality.

While Creature Commandos and Waller are pretty well locked. Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold are too early to tell. Speaking with Variety in a new profile, Bloys said, “As I talked to James and Peter about it, we’re going to develop these things and hopefully they’re all great. If they’re not, we’ll have other options and we’ll see. But what’s most exciting is that they’ve got a plan. Anything that James is excited about in terms of DC, I’m good with. I just want to make sure for Max that they’re the best shows that we can do.”

We have no reason to believe these shows won’t make it onto HBO, but in general, this is not an announcement pattern we’re used to. While Marvel Studios will delay projects from time to time, if they get to the point of announcing a project it’s going to happen. DC Studios may not be quite as locked as of yet.

No word as of yet as to when we’ll see the release of Creature Commandos and Waller.
