Don’t get in line quite yet for Constantine 2 as it seems the project is being ‘re-evaluated’ by DC Studios.

Last Sept. it was announced that Keanu Reeves’ Constantine film was finally going to receive a sequel. In addition to Reeves returning for the film, director Francis Lawrence was also announced to be returning to the franchise that launched his feature film directorial career. Akiva Goldsman has been tapped to pen the screenplay and produce through his Weed Road Pictures. Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella are also set as producers. Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Erwin Stoff are set as executive producers.

Following the announcement of the new DC Universe slate in Jan., rumors circulated that the film was canceled. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Discovery shot those rumors down in early Feb.

Now, Reeves is out promoting John Wick: Chapter 4, and of course people are asking for an update on the project. Speaking with Collider, Reeves said “DC world [is] re-evaluating whether or not they want to do a Constantine with me in the movie. So fingers crossed!”

Released in 2005, Constantine went on to earn $230.9 million at the global box office off of a budget reported to be anywhere from $70 to $100 million. While not a gigantic success, it did earn a profit. In the years since the film has gone on to earn a cult following that has kept pace with Reeves growing fan base. Both Reeves and Lawrence have stated for years that they wanted to return for a sequel, but it seemed increasingly unlikely. Now, with the plans finally announced, a change in leadership and plans may again keep the project coming together. We’ll just have to wait and see what the final decision is, but hopefully, it will move forward.
